Adopstar’s Charity of the Year: Devon Mind

We are very excited to announce that we have chosen Devon Mind as our charity of the year! As a company, we deeply value our staff's well-being and actively promote open discussions about their mental health. We have mental health first aiders in various positions of the business and we strongly urge employees to carry out mental health first aid training. This helps the team to personally grow, understand mental health better, and empower them to support other colleagues. Managing Director, Theresa Benson, mentions “Nowadays, with social media and other life struggles, mental health can take a beating and we not only want to support our team, but help support those that need it in the community.” Devon Mind is a fantastic charity dedicated to helping people with their mental health. We are thrilled to be supporting their efforts to raise awareness and provide important resources for those who could use a helping hand. This decision truly reflects our commitment at Adopstar to making a positive impact on mental health in our community. We look forward to joining forces with Devon Mind and being part of their initiatives that make a real difference in the lives of people facing mental health challenges.

As you may know, we are in close collaboration with Cullompton Rugby Club, making Adopstar the headline sponsor of the Cullompton Rugby Football Club’s festival, which happens every two years. The festival aims to raise funds to cover its operational costs, but also provide a great day out for all of the family! As always, anticipate a vibrant atmosphere with live music, entertainment, food stalls and a bar with drinks provided by local breweries. Here at Adopstar, our team is wholeheartedly committed to shining a spotlight on Razzfest, and we do this by creating and maintaining the website, managing social media and advertising and doing the behind-the-scenes admin. We're absolutely thrilled to welcome you all for yet another unforgettable year!

Joining Forces For A Good Cause

Two businesses, one mission. We have been collaborating with The Steamer Coffee House and Kitchen to make a lasting impact on our community. They have been hosting some great family events in aid of Cullompton Family Centre. So far we have organised the Steamer's Family Bingo evening and a Harry Potter Quiz Night. Both events were highly successful, bringing families together for fun and entertainment while raising funds for a great cause. This partnership is a shining example of how local businesses can come together to support their community and make a positive difference.

Long Game 6 - 24 hour Gameathon for YLVC

Another year, another 24 hour gaming marathon in support of Young Lives vs Cancer. You know the drill by now, the amazing team started their gaming journey on Saturday morning at 10am and kept going, non-stop, until 10am on Sunday morning. After consuming 3 crates of energy drinks (at least), the team have done an incredible job of 24 hours of gaming with no breaks. The entire event was streamed live via Twitch and our supporters had the chance to comment on our games, and join in on the excitement. We had an initial target of raising £1100, which we smashed through, finally raising £1820.50. The most we have ever raised in previous Long Games! A huge thank you to all our supporters and everyone that helped us make this happen. Shall we return for another year?

Adopstar Park

We are proud to announce that Adopstar has just signed on as the official sponsor of the Cullompton Rangers Football Club. Speeds Meadow, where the club is situated, will now be known as Adopstar Park. Cullompton Rangers have set up various youth teams for players ranging from six to 16 years of age. The club itself consists of four football pitches with a clubhouse and a magnificent set of changing room facilities that were built in 2010. “The partnership between Adopstar and the Cullompton Rangers Football Club is a natural extension of the contribution we have made towards local sports,” explained Adopstar’s managing director, Theresa Benson. “During the last year, we have sponsored shirts for the under-18 Cullompton Rangers Football Club and organised and sponsored the rebranding of the rugby posts at the Cullompton Rugby Football Supporters Club.” “One of the issues that Adopstar is most passionate about is encouraging young people to get involved in sporting activities,” concluded Benson. “We look forward to being part of the next stage of the Cullompton Rangers’ journey.”

GWC10k

As soon as we heard that this event would not take place in 2017 due to logistical issues, we stepped in and offered to assist with the organising of it because we knew that Young Lives vs Cancer could not afford to miss out on this huge fundraising opportunity – both from the 10k walk/run and from the family festival that is held afterwards. Not really knowing what we’d let ourselves in for we got stuck in straight away. Among the things that we managed to organise was the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight fly-past with the Dakota C-47, the Exeter Chiefs inflatable, Premiership Rugby Players appearances and local bands including The Twerzels . For the following year, we knew what to expect and we set out to make the event bigger and better than ever before. Over the years we have expanded the event by adding cake competitions, artistic performers & dancers, small local independent stall holders, emergency services display by the local Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, a wide variety of games and the Town Crier on hand to support participants. Unfortunately, due to Covid19, both 2020 and 2021 events had to be held virtually. 2022 and 2023 were bigger and better than before, enticing a multitude of people to take part and attend. The only difference is, 2023 was our last year ever. After six successful consecutive years we have decided to take a step back. We have had lots of fun organising the event as a day to remember for the community, but more importantly, to help raise as much money as possible for a cause so close to our hearts. We thank you all for volunteering, taking part and attending over the years.

Adopstar teams up with St Andrew’s Primary School to help CHAT

For the past two years, Ms Evelina, a teaching assistant at St Andrew’s Primary School in Cullompton has organised a reverse advent calendar, asking parents and guardians to donate items to support Churches Housing Action Team (CHAT), which has been supporting people facing housing difficulties in Mid Devon since 1995. CHAT provides invaluable support to those facing poverty, providing food when required as well as housing advice, tenancy support, budgeting strategies and more. In exchange for making a donation, members of the community get an entry into a raffle, in which they could win fabulous prizes donated by local businesses. It provides a great way for families and businesses alike to get into the spirit of giving during the festive season. Over the years, St Andrew’s has shown a steadfast commitment to raising funds for this worthy cause. When the 2022 edition of their charity drive got started, Adopstar decided to get involved. We made a donation of tinned food, biscuits, toilet rolls and various long-life items to the value of approximately £180 to the CHAT Food Bank. In the words of Adopstar’s managing director, Theresa Benson, Adopstar has a heart for charity and for those less fortunate than ourselves. “We were thrilled to get an opportunity to be part of a programme that makes a difference in our community,” said Theresa. “We hope that our community has helped to provide festive cheer where it is needed most and that, thanks to the efforts of Ms Evelina, St Andrew’s Primary School, CHAT and their charity partners, the new year dawns with hope and purpose for more members of our community.”

Sponsorship of Christ Tshiunza

If you’ve ever met the Adopstar team, you’ll know that we’re rugby mad! We are so excited to announce that we are now the official sponsor of Christ Tshiunza from the Exeter Chiefs. Described as “a rising star within the modern-day game”, the 6ft 6in forward is realising his phenomenal potential. He made his full first-team debut for the Exeter Chiefs in the 2021/22 season and we can’t wait to see what this talented young player will achieve next.

Adopstar Supports Local

The two things that we are passionate about (over and above advertising and marketing) is sports and the Cullompton community. That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to rebrand Cullompton Rugby Club’s rugby posts, which have been transformed from looking a little dated to looking fabulous. Adopstar has a long history of getting involved in local sports. Last year, we sponsored shirts for the under-18 Cullompton Rangers Football Club and we have had a long association with the Exeter Chiefs. We firmly believe that being active is an important part of life, and we support the local sporting legends of today and tomorrow whenever we can.

St Andrew’s Primary School Christmas Panto

2021 was a tough year for everyone but when we heard that due to a lack of funding, the school wouldn’t be able to take the children to watch A Christmas Carol, at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter, we knew we had to take action. As small children, many of us were lucky enough to go to the Christmas pantomime and we couldn’t bear the thought of the children missing out so as a company we jumped in to help pay, to ensure no child missed out!

Adopstar Presents Razzfest 2022

Thanks to our close collaboration with Cullompton Rugby Club, Adopstar is now the official headline sponsor of the Cullompton Rugby Football Club’s festival, which happens every two years. The club puts on this music festival to help raise funds to cover its operational costs, and it’s a great day out for the whole family. There’s live music, entertainment, food stalls and beer and ale from local breweries. Team Adopstar has shone the spotlight on this event by creating and maintaining the website, managing social media and advertising and taking care of admin behind the scenes.

CLIC House Communal Garden Upgrades

Sometimes money isn’t everything and a little bit of TLC can be just as helpful. In the Summer of 2017, a group of Adopstar employees went to CLIC House in Bristol for the day to give the communal garden a little bit of a refresh. Our team went armed with some electrical sanders and tins of varnish, to sand down and redo all their benches. We also took along a brand-new BBQ and gazebo, which we bought with money raised from a local quiz night, for the families to enjoy in the garden, when they are not in the hospitals.

Fighting Homelessness with CHAT

After spotting a post asking for donations to CHAT who fight homelessness and support families in the local community, we quickly decided to go to Tescos and carry out our own version of Supermarket Sweep. We loaded up our trolley with soups, crisps, cereals and pasta to name a few and delivered it to the organiser of this great initiative, Miss Ewelina at St Andrews School in Cullompton. Hopefully this will help make a small difference to families struggling this year.

2020 Xmas Food Hampers

2020 was a tough year for everyone! With most of the world in lockdown and many households on furlough or worse, without jobs, the thought of Christmas was daunting for many. The big question was being asked, “How will we feed the family?” Even for those families who still had their jobs but were in isolation – they were unable to get out to buy the ingredients for themselves. Here at Adopstar we joined forces with The Globe, one of our local pubs, Morrisons and our local farm shop to provide as many families as possible, with the vital ingredients for their much-loved Christmas dinner. Ingredients included meat, a wide selection of vegetables, stuffing, mince pies and even some Christmas crackers to decorate the table. This allowed many families to reduce their worries and enjoy Christmas. We delivered over 100 food boxes including 16 of them being sent to Bristol to support CLIC Sargent families in CLIC House and Sam’s House during the festive season.

Adopstar’s Big Buzz In The Fight Against Cancer

In January 2015 members of the Adopstar team braved the shave for CLIC Sargent (now called Young Lives vs Cancer). We even had a female employee taking part – and an employee who is normally bald grow his hair for the event. It was all well worth it and raised over £1,300 for the cause!

Easter Eggs

When the run up to Easter arrives and your child is in hospital, the last thing on your mind would be to go out shopping for Easter Eggs. Here at Adopstar we wanted to do something a little different for Young Lives vs Cancer. We decided we would collect Easter Eggs and they would be delivered to hospitals and Home from Homes for the children, families and the Cancer nurses. With the help of donations from local businesses, schools and supermarkets we have managed to deliver thousands of Easter Eggs every year to hospitals in areas ranging fro the bottom of Cornwall to Southampton, Cardiff, Gloucester and everywhere in between! It’s amazing how something as small as an Easter Egg can bring a smile to so many faces.

BackingBen

We were delighted to become a platinum sponsor of the Testimonial Year for Exeter Chief’s Ben Moon. Throughout the testimonial year, Adopstar staff were lucky enough to attend some spectacular fundraising events, among them a 007 Gala Ball, a fashion show, a barn dance, changing room experiences, pre-match meal and the testimonial match on 4th September 2021. I think it’s fair to say that we all had a fantastic time celebrating the achievements of a great rugby player as well as a lovely guy!

Cam’s Skydive for Young Lives vs Cancer

It was four years ago I stepped into a plane for the very first time and it was for exactly the same reason as this was – to jump out at 15,000ft to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer. Not very many people can say that they jumped out of the first plane journey they’ve ever been on! When the opportunity to do another skydive presented itself, I was surprised by the amount of hesitation I had towards it! One cannot explain the sensation one feels when kneeling at the very edge of the open door, wind noise and freezing cold air blowing into your face, strapped to the expert behind you, feeling almost weightless and tilting your head back and to the side to avoid concussing the chap who’ll be responsible for deploying the parachute! Slowly leaning out of the open doorway for what feels like a minute before the push off and the sinking, stomach turning sensation of freefalling out of control before you’re stabilised and able to take in the sensation of falling at 120mph for a full 60 seconds (imagine sticking your head above the windscreen of a convertible at this speed) … before the parachute is deployed, and calmness takes over. Now enjoy the descent and the eye watering, ear popping for the next couple of hours! Raising almost £500 for the charity – it’s an amazing experience and one which I will do again and again although each time the hesitation and heart rate seem to increase!

2021 24hr Gameathon

Once again this year, like every year, we had a 24 hour game marathon in support of Young Lives vs Cancer. We started playing on Saturday morning at 10am and kept going, non-stop, until 10am on Sunday morning, with lots of coffee and energy drinks consumed in the process! The whole event was streamed live via Twitch and our supporters had the chance to join us on our Discord page, commenting on our games, keeping us company, and joining in the fun. We had an initial target of raising £400, which we smashed, finally raising £450 which was more than any other year on our Long Games. A huge thank you to all our supporters and everyone that helped us make this happen.
